W.F. Baird & Associates Coastal Engineers Ltd. (Baird) is seeking a motivated, dynamic, and personable Water Resources Engineer to join the team. This position will compliment and expand our existing team strengths in project/task management, technical analysis, and engineering. It will involve project types related to water resources, hydraulics & hydrology, coastal and marine engineering, including feasibility studies, field investigations, design and implementation, specifically:

  • Hydraulics & Hydrology – modeling effects of extreme rainfall events, assessing climate change effects, watershed level analysis, analysis and design of hydraulic structures, water storage and conveyance infrastructure.
  • Ecosystem Restoration – living shorelines, marsh restoration, reefs, adaptive structures.
  • Coastal – shore protection, flood risk reduction infrastructure (levees, gates, walls), beach restoration, breakwaters, jetties and groins.
  • Navigation & Dredging – design of channels and turning basins, analysis of vessel traffic and hazards, dredging, dredged material management.
  • Metocean – modelling and data analysis for waves, tides, flows/currents, storm surges, and meteorological conditions.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of assignments that require the application of standard design engineering technique, procedures, and criteria limited guidance from senior engineers.
  • Support senior-level engineers with planning, research, preliminary design, and performing detailed design tasks.
  • Lead/support the collection and analysis of data.
  • Travel for 1–2-week periods domestically and internationally. Occasional assignments may be longer.
  • Participate in proposal preparation and interviews, as necessary.
  • Maintain a flexible work style with the ability to meet challenging deadlines and client needs.
  • Apply knowledge of codes and standards relative to water resources/coastal engineering.
  • Lead/support multi-disciplinary teams (internal and external) under tight deadlines and changing scope.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in environmental science, civil or coastal or related engineering.
  • M.Sc. or M.Eng.
  • 4+ years of experience with hydraulic & hydrologic engineering.
  • P.E. registration required, or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment.
  • P.H. and C.F.M. desirable.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, MATLAB, AutoCAD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWAT, and working knowledge of GIS.
  • Working knowledge of codes and standards relative to hydraulic and hydrologic engineering.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills (English).
  • Flexible work style, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment, meet challenging deadlines and client needs.
  • Ability to work well on multi-disciplinary teams (internal and external) under tight deadlines and changing scope.
  • Willingness to travel including but not limited to the field assignments as needed.
